Aichi D3A2 model 22 Val type 2

The earlier version of the D3A1 Val - which was used in the first 2 years of WWII - was replaced by this upgraded version, the D3A2 model 22. It had a larger engine with 125 more horse power, hence a different nose and prop, an elongated rear cockpit and various other improvements. It was about 40 mph faster, but had a shorter range. Production began in August of 1942 and it was used from 1943 through 1944. By 1945 it was relegated to training and finally kamikaze attacks.

This model represents a plane flown by the 652 Air Group as part of the 2nd Koku Sentai, on board the Japanese carriers Hiyo, Junyo and Ryuho during the Battle of the Philippine Sea, June 18th, 1944. None of the 2nd Koku Sentai aircraft reached the American cariers, most being shot down by the US Navy's Hellcat CAP, with a handful surviving to land at Guam, while the Hiyo was sunk and the Junyo was damaged during the American strikes.

The model was developed from the old PAW1942 Val 3DZ wireframe, and the skin started as one done by Claudio, but was mostly repainted by myself.

Intended for use with Charles Gunst's ECAPanel. To use, place the files into your EAW folder and select the Val flight model in the JU-87 slot in the ECAPanel.

Hope you like it.

Cheers
